Houston, Roxane2008
Book
Abstract: "One couldn't hide away from life forever, and I decided now that whatever was in store for us all, I, at any rate, was going to make sure I had a hand in it, however small and insignificant."After witnessing the demoralised Dunkirk survivors first hand, Roxane Houston was determined to "do her bit". She volunteered to joins the Wrens. From a comfortable background with a sheltered upbringing, she now began a remarkable, and sometimes difficult journey, set against six years of war. Starting at the Royal Naval Air Station at St Merryn near Padstow, under seemingly constant attack from the Luftwaffe, she was moved round Britain, thence to Ceylon, and did not return home until early 1946.
